Clothing

Styles should be simple, solid colors work best. More formal clothing is generally used for an indoor setting, while casual styles can be worn both indoors and outdoors. Avoid bold patterns and stripes. You want to create an image that is not dated or trendy.

What Do I Wear? Ladies

Almost anything, but keep these few pointers in mind. First solids ALWAYS photograph better than prints. Avoid stripes, prints and patterns. Also avoid clothing with any wording or large brand names on them. In almost all cases it is wise to bring extra outfits and we will help you decide when you get here. Avoid white clothing for outdoor portraits.  We suggest you bring a variety of clothing to your session at least 2-3 outfits for each type of session you purchase. We recommend a traditional dress outfit for the traditional session and then a selection of casual outfits that best show your personality. If you choose the Economy Session, bring at least 6-outfits to select from, we will use 4.  For a Larger Session, bring at least 8-10 outfits, we will use 6.   Darker solids usually work best for your formal portrait. Off the shoulder dresses are nice, but avoid tan lines. White or pastels usually are best for light backgrounds. Basic primary colors as well as black and white (white indoor only) are great for casuals. Red is a great color for outdoors.  Denim always photographs nicely. Remember the clothing should be flattering but not overpowering.

  • Bring some long-sleeved outfits too

What do I wear? Guys

Bring several outfits. A suit or sport coat for formal poses or we have tuxedo jackets for you. Make sure your shirts are pressed to avoid wrinkles. Casual outfits are best kept to solid colors. Denim, white (white - indoor only), black and solid earth tones always look good.  Reds are great colors for outdoors.

Bring 2-3 outfits for each type of session you purchase.

What else should I bring?

Bring props that have meaning to you, sports equipment or uniforms, dance outfits, musical instruments, pets (if they are housebroken), boyfriends (they also must be housebroken), your class ring and your car if you wish.

Make up

Apply make up as you normally would if you were going out for the evening. Pay special attention to your eyes. Cover up makeup can soften blemishes and lines and is recommended for everyone in the group when necessary. If you are getting glamour shots or a Modeling portfolio we can supply a makeup artist for you. We are also equipped with cover up makeup and hairspray if needed.

Eyeglasses

If you wear glasses most of the time you probably want them in your portrait. Eyeglass glare can be tricky to remove from an image. You may want to temporarily remove your lenses for the portrait, or look into borrowing a pair of empty frames similar to your own. Hair
Plan haircuts a week or more in advance. Don't experiment or try a new hair style on the day of your session, allow at least two weeks for a fresh perm to relax. If an outdoor session is planned hairspray may be needed to keep hair in place. Men may need to shave prior to the session to eliminate five o'clock shadow.

Jewelry

Fine jewelry in good taste is always a good idea, watches, necklaces, bracelets, pins etc. If you have questions, about a particular piece please ask.
